When to Go
Spring (March–April) is peak: cherry blossoms and peach trees line the causeways, and the misty-morning aesthetic is exactly what Hanfu editorial shoots are made of. Expect the biggest crowds and book rental a day ahead.
Autumn (October–November) brings golden ginkgo and clear light — quieter than spring and equally photogenic. Summer is humid and hot, but early mornings at 6–7 AM are still beautiful and empty. Winter is cold but the lake takes on a pale, atmospheric quality that suits muted Song-style robes.
Weekdays are dramatically calmer than weekends at any season. If your dates are flexible, rent on a Tuesday or Wednesday for near-empty causeways.

Book a dawn shoot. Wake before 6 AM, pick up your rental the evening before, and be on the Bai Causeway by 6:30 while the lake is still shrouded in mist and the tour boats haven't launched. The combination of Song-style robes, pale morning light, and an empty arched bridge is the image that made Hangzhou the most-recommended Hanfu city — and it costs nothing extra, only an early alarm.
