Where to Rent
Rental shops cluster in the Luoyang Old Town district (Laocheng), near the old city walls and night market. From here a taxi or metro ride gets you to the Longmen Grottoes in about 40 minutes.

When to Go
April–May is peony season, Luoyang's famous festival — the city's parks are blanketed in peonies and the Hanfu scene comes out in force. It's also the busiest window, so book rental and grotto tickets ahead.
Autumn (October–November) is the comfortable sweet spot: mild weather, fewer crowds at Longmen, and the Yi River reflecting golden light. Summer is hot with little shade at the grottoes — bring water and go at first entry. Winter is cold but the grottoes are near-empty, and the stone Buddhas against winter sky are hauntingly beautiful.
